Refer a friend: what the scheme asks of you — and of them
Referral schemes reward existing players for bringing in new ones. They are common in online casinos and are usually presented as a simple thank-you. Behind the friendly wording is a marketing arrangement: the reward depends on the new player signing up and, in most cases, depositing and playing. This page explains how such schemes are typically structured and what to think about before sharing a link. It does not describe or promote a specific MyStake scheme; whether one exists for your account, and on which terms, is set out by the operator.
Typical conditions
| Condition | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Personal link or code | The new player must register through it |
| Qualifying activity | A first deposit and sometimes a minimum amount of play |
| Reward form | Bonus money or spins, normally with wagering |
| Limits | A maximum number of referrals or rewards per period |
| Exclusions | No self-referral, no shared households or devices |
The reward is a bonus like any other
In most schemes the referral reward arrives as bonus money or free spins, which means the usual terms apply: a wagering requirement, a deadline, a maximum stake and possibly a cap on winnings. If a reward of 20 carries a requirement of 25 times, you would need to stake 500 before it can be withdrawn. The number is only an example, but the point stands — a referral reward is rarely cash. Read our wagering guide before you count on it.
One account per person
Almost every operator forbids multiple accounts, self-referral and referrals within the same household or on the same device. Systems look for shared addresses, payment methods and devices. Breaking the rule usually leads to closed accounts and confiscated winnings for everyone involved. If two people in a household both want to play, ask support how the operator treats that before either of you registers.
Before you share a link
A referral link is a recommendation, and you take on some responsibility by sending it. You cannot know whether gambling is a safe pastime for the person you invite, and the reward you receive depends on them spending money. Never send a link to anyone under 18, to someone who has told you they are trying to gamble less, or to someone who may be using a self-exclusion scheme. Ask yourself whether you would still share it if there were no reward.
Licence and law
Whether online gambling with a given operator is legal depends on the law where the player lives, not on the operator's licence alone. Your friend may live under different rules from you. Our MyStake review explains how to look up a licence in a regulator's public register — a step worth sharing along with any link.
